Fort Queenscliff

Built to defend the entrance to Port Phillip Bay, Fort Queenscliff overlooks the commercial shipping lanes to Melbourne and Geelong. Used for military purposes since 1860, it is reminiscent of a medieval fortress with muzzle loading cannons, walls, a dry moat and a keep.

It is one of Australia's largest and best-preserved military fortresses, incorporating the unique black lighthouse (est. 1862), military museum and underground shell magazine.

Tour Information Accessible by guided tour only. Disabled access available to museum and many gun positions but not to underground magazines. Groups bookings welcome by arrangement outside of normal tour times.

Location King Street, Queenscliff. Approx. 3.5km from Beacon Resort.
